Apple noodles. They’re the bomb in my family. Crunchy, sweet, delicious and CHEAP!
We discovered the magic of spiralizers a few months ago. The goal was to get more veggies into our diets, but surprisingly, it’s the fruit that we’re really loving! Especially apples, since they keep so long, are readily available and taste great in almost everything. You can make them as exotic or as plain as you like and they’re still great, as well as great for you.
We eat them like pasta, with our favorite dessert “sauce”. You can make these are healthy or as indulgent as you like. Think of your favorite apple desserts, and add the flavorings to freshly spiralized, raw apple noodles. You could bake or saute the apples, but we like them raw. Easy, peasy, yumminess!
Some of our favorites sauces are:
plain or flavored yogurts of your choice (dairy, soy, coconut, almond, etc)
caramel or date sauce (tastes like caramel)
chocolate syrup
nutella (heaven!)
peanut butter (mixed with yogurt)
whipped cream
Some of our favorite toppings are:
dried fruit
nuts
oats
chocolate chips
cranberries
pomegranate seeds
coconut
sprinkles
cinnamon
cinnamon sugar
You can also eat them like a cereal or muesli, or as a yogurt parfait. The possibilities are truly endless!
Note: Combining different types of apples is delicious. You can also use pears as well.
The one downside is they start to brown almost immediately, even after tossing them in lemon juice (which is delicious!) I make Apple Noodle Parfaits in mason jars for work (recipe coming soon), and the browning isn’t too bad. It doesn’t affect the flavor at all, it’s just the fruit oxidizing since it’s been cut. Fruit-Fresh also helps. You can find it in the canning section of most stores. It has absorbic acid in it to keep fruits from browning when canning and preserving.
